Trade Wars 2002 Electronic Mall
and ADD-ON by Neil Dupree

***************************************************************************
Note: Sorry that this document is not very pretty, I'm still working on
better Docs, but in the interest of releasing this program sooner, I cut
a few corners here and there... If you have problems I explain at the end
how to get in touch with me.
This Program is SHARE WARE... IT IS NOT FREE! To make full use of the
Trade Wars 2002 Electronic Mall send a $5 money order to:
Neil Dupree
527 Alexander Street
Schenectady, NY 12308-1223
As soon as I recieve your money order, I will send you a registration
code. Please allow 3-6 weeks for delivery.
Although the Unregitered version of this program has all of the current
features, it WILL NOT write to the Trade Wars data files. I.E. you get
to Browse in the Mall, but nothing really happens. Also as no money
ever changes hands in the unregistered version, I don't advise you allow
your users to run this until you register.
With a registration code you will have a complete working version of this
program. And the registration code will be valid with all future
versions of this program that are written for TradeWars 2002 V1.03 (the
only version of TradeWars that the Mall currently works with). When the
Martin's release a new version of TradeWars I will try to upgrade the
Mall and hopefully not charge another fee. BUT I CAN'T make any
promises. It took alot of time to write this program, and I will be
adding more services as time goes on. So I think you're getting your
money's worth.
No as for what the Mall is....
The TradeWars 2002 Electronic Mall started when I was playing TW2002 one
day and said to myself, Gee I wish I could borrow money from the bank.
And many other ideas popped into my head as well.
Currently the Mall has the following services:
CQ & V Loan service... Which will give loans to players.
If a player defaults on a loan, they will loose their ship and
a large percentage of their experience.
Cecil the P.I. will tell (for a fee) where another trader is
hiding. Unless of course the other trader is 'Cloaked' or
in a citidel.
Intergalactic Transwarp Towing, these guy will
tow you anywhere, instantly.
Fid Dentor's Custom Ship Shop. Curently he will sell evil players
black market photon torpedos.
Other services will be added in future releases.. Lemme know if
you have any ideas...
All transactions with the Mall are done through the Galactic Bank,
players have money removed from their account to pay for all services.
Well that's the Mall in a nutshell. It does not have alot of Whiz-Bang
to it. No Ansi or other fancy stuff, but it works. Response has been
good, so I'll keep adding to it.
With that said lets move on to instillation...
The Trade Wars 2002 Electronic Mall DOES NOT handle any i/o to the comm
port Your BBS must trap all Dos I/O calls. I have tested this program
with WWIV and the chain-edit Dos Interupt trap set to YES. Optionally you
can use the Dos CTTY command to redirect i/o through the modem. Only do
this for remote access to the mall.
Also, as this program was written for WWIV you must have a way to
generate the file CHAIN.TXT. There are several share ware programs that
will do this for most BBS's.
If you can support these options you should have no problems getting the
MALL to run on your system.
Additionally there is a program PREGAME.EXE which should be run as a
log-on event for all users.. It handles defaulting on loans. Other
features will most likely be added to PREGAME as time goes on. It is
small and runs quite quickly. If the USER is not a TradeWars player the
program aborts and does no i/o, so it is totally transparent.
o.k. on to actual instillation.
The file TWMALL.ZIP should have the following files.
MALL.EXE (THE ACTUALL MALL PROGRAM)
MALLCFG.EXE (TO CONFIGURE THE MALL)
PREGAME.EXE (CHECK'S TO SEE IF A PLAYER HAS DEFAULTED ON A LOAN
AND MAKES THEM SUFFER FOR IT!)
MALL.DOC (THIS FILE)
MALLREV.TXT (Bugs, i.e. mistakes, I've fixed)
The files MALL.EXE and PREGAME.exe and MALLCFG.EXE should be placed in
your Tradewars directory.
next create a file MALL.bat in your bbs directory which looks something
like this (assuming you run WWIV). (examples included)
or if you don't have WWIV use this for remote
access.
ECHO OFF ECHO OFF
cd tradewars cd tradewars
MALL ctty com1: (or com2:)
cd.. mall
ctty con:
cd ..
I am not going to tell you how to install MALL.EXE and PREGAME.EXE as
a door and log-on event respectivly. Each BBS has way of handling
this differently. With WWIV you use CHAINEDIT & INIT.
Next you must run the program MALLCFG to create the file MALL.CFG.
First select option 'S' for system options. Enter all of the appropriate
directory specifications.
The paths must contain the final '\'.
The Hangup code parameter is for BBS that do not automatically close an
external program on hang-up. Some will send an ascii code. NOTE: The
mall will also close if it recieves no input for more than 60 seconds..
Next configure each of the 'Service Channels' I can't tell you what
prices to set (that's up to each Sysop). The one important thing to make
note of if the formula used to decide how much a player can borrow from
CQ&V.
Minimum loan+(addtional credits*players exp) as long as its less than
maximum loan.
i.e. Assume 'A Trader' has 200 experience points
minimum loan is 100, additional credits is 10. 'A Trader' could
borrow 100+(200*10)=2100 credits. If this is more than the Maximum
loan, they could borrow the max.
If all goes well, you should have the unregistered version installed..
Have fun looking it over. And if you like what you see, send me a money
order for five dollars and an SASE for a registration code. If your on
WWIVnet, be sure to include your user & node number so I can e-mail you
with announcements of new version (and better docs), which will allways
be avail for Download at The City Morgue BBS (518)346-2499
